I can't take the madness anymore, so I just wrote a letter to Bill Geddie at "The View":
I'm a writer connected to many other writers and readers on the web. We love "The View". We Tivo and DVR episodes daily. We watch follow-up clips on You Tube and various blogs. What most of us can't understand is why Elizabeth Hasselbeck is the one "chosen" to represent our demographic when she is so embarrassingly condescending and closed-minded towards the topics that face the demographic she "represents". My question is: Why is she on the show?
It's not enough that she's the "counterpoint". She's not even good at that. Typically, she's uninformed and unwilling to listen. The other View co-hosts listen to each other (and to her) and often open their minds to another point of view. Sometimes, they're not afraid to admit that they're wrong. I feel more in line with the co-hosts who are 20 years older than me than with Elizabeth. My second question: Can you please find someone else to replace Elizabeth Hasselbeck?
Hasselbeck's condescending rants towards her co-workers are officially unbearable to watch. It's negative television. Isn't "The View" on the air to promote positive discussion? MY LAST QUESTION: WHERE MAY I DIRECT MY COMPLAINTS AND OPINIONS WHERE SOMEONE WILL ACTUALLY READ THEM AND RESPOND? I apologize for the all caps, but I am passionate about the way that I feel. Many of my friends and cohorts feel the same way, and we feel powerless. Many of us are dropping "The View" from our schedules.
Writing about Elizabeth on our blogs isn't enough, but more and more people are listening and commenting. I'm writing this to you on behalf of those of us who would rather sever ties with a favorite show than watch childish and uninformed tirades. Please hear us and rethink Elizabeth Hasselbeck. There has to be somebody else out there who can handle the same viewpoints with intelligence and grace.
Sigh, I miss Lisa Ling. On another note, and I never thought I'd say this, but where is Rachel Campos? If they have to have a staunchly conservative point of view, why not bring Rachel back?
